Respect

These rules exist to enable comfortable and considerate relations and interactions between and among all the residents of the Old Grace Housing Co-operative.

These rules are to be read and interpreted in such a way as to maximize the consideration of our neighbours’ right to quiet enjoyment, to reduce conflict among neighbours, to maintain cleanliness and orderliness throughout the co-operative, to live as sustainably as possible and, in general, to foster a sense of warm community

Our individual diversity strengthens and enriches our community, but our differences can also lead to conflict and pain.  All members and visitors have the right to be treated with respect.  It is essential that members listen to each others’ viewpoints without becoming defensive or provocative.

Each member is encouraged to share in developing and maintaining a safe and welcoming community by assuming goodwill on the part of others, listening and speaking honestly and respectfully to each other and dealing fairly and openly with issues and concerns.

We hope to deal with problems as they arise in a supportive and sensible way that has a positive outcome for everyone involved.

Intimidation, abusive, aggressive or violent behaviour is completely unacceptable and will not be tolerated.

A little tolerance for the unexpected AND respect for our neighbours will go a long way towards improving everyone’s quality of life, especially in a co-op where we all live so close to one another.
