When can we expect the next construction progress report?

Our Building Project Team continues to meet weekly to review progress toward completion. We expect to communicate the results of this week’s meeting by the end of the week, or early next week.

When can we expect our Interim Occupancy Permit?

We hope that we will have an Interim Occupancy Permit for the Arlington wing by the third week of March and an occupancy permit for the remainder of the building by the beginning of April.

Why is it taking so long?

Understandably members are asking about the delays and wondering why. Several factors have come into play during our construction phase. Here are just a few of them:

  • Weather: the very wet weather last summer and this winter – record cold.
  • Trades and labour shortages led to a series of inter-related delays.
  • Our unique design: this is a complex structure on constrained site.
  • OGHC requested changes: As our fundraising campaigns have progressed OGHC has added a number of features that, for cost reasons, were not in the original contract. The additions include an additional elevator, a wheelchair lift, courtyard paving and landscaping, window blinds and door screens, and enhancements to the common areas.
When will the elevator be ready?

As soon as Manitoba Labour provides their certificate, we’ll be able to use the elevator. We are hopeful that we’ll have it within a week. More after this week’s meeting.
