Risk Management 2023

 

In March 2023 the Co-operative Housing Federation released information on its 2023 risk management program. The program is operated in conjunction with our insurer, The Co-operators. This is the second year of a three-year program. Old Grace participated in last year’s program. This resulted in a five percent reduction in our insurance costs.

Detailed information on the program can be found here. The following is a summary.

Year One

  • The board passes a resolution committing itself to taking part in Year One and Two of the program.
  • The board participates in a two-hour CHF webinar on risk management.
  • The board undertakes a risk-management self-assessment

We did all the above.

Year Two

  • The board adopts a resolution to participate in year Three. This resolution will be presented to the Board meeting on April 11, 2023.
  • The majority of board members participate in a webinar on the development of an annual risk management training template for the co-op or takes an e-learning module. The dates of the webinar and links to registration are at the bottom of this page. You can register for the e-learning course here: (Take Risk Management Phase 2.   • Board members individually review the CHF’s risk management template. You can download a copy of the template here.
  • OGHC completes unit checklists for one half of the units with a plan for addressing serious risks that are identified. 
  • The board members review the template for a risk management plan and hold a discussion on developing a risk management plan in 2024.
  • The board distributes this flyer on risk management to the memberships, holds a membership meeting to discuss risk management, and encourages members to participate in the e-learning course on risk management.

Year three

  • Producing a Risk Management Program for the year.
  • A commitment to updating the Risk Management Program each year
  • The board participates in an education session on risk management
  • The members participate in an education session on risk management.
  • Completing unit checklists for the second half of the number of units with a plan for addressing serious risks
