Principle Six of the International Co-operative Principles is ‘Co-operation Among Co-operatives’. The Co-operative Housing Federation (CHF) adapted the principle for housing co-ops. It states: “By organizing together in federations, housing co-ops grow stronger and help to build a healthy co-op movement. Where they can, housing co-ops use the services of co-op businesses to meet their needs.”
At Old Grace Housing Co-op, we are fortunate to have many co-op connections, including CHF. Co-ops take many forms, including retail co-ops (Red River Co-op), Aboriginal co-ops (Neechi Commons), worker co-ops (Organic Planet), financial co-ops (Assiniboine Credit Union), and many more.
If you’re in the market for products you might find in a hardware store (including Low VOC Paints), why not consider supporting Pollock’s Hardware Co-op. Pollock’s describes itself as “…one of Winnipeg’s oldest and coolest hardware stores! Established in 1922, we are one of the few independent hardware stores to make it through the boom of big box stores.” Pollocks has locations at 1407 Main Street and 550 Osborne Street.
